High Fructose Corn Syrup, Health & Testosterone!Hi Mark,I have a 3 can a day Mountain Dew habit, that I can't seem to quit.
I'm addicted to the caffeine/sugar rush, and use it instead of coffee to get through my day
I'm just wondering if this could be the cause of my low
Testosterone levels, and recent weight gain?
I just got results from my annual blood test, and my total testosterone level came in at only 366. I'm 31 years old.
I look forward to your answer.
Thank you for the great site!
My Best,
Brandon
High Fructose Corn Syrup, Health & Testosterone!Hi Brandon,
Regarding your questions above, the answer is yes, on both counts.
High fructose corn syrup will make you a fat, feminine male, with
low sex drive, if you consume too much.
Let me explain...Normal glucose is burned off as energy, or stored in your muscles as glycogen.
High fructose corn syrup is much different. It's processed through your liver.
Instead of being burned off as energy, like glucose is, it's typically converted to saturated fat, and deposited around the gut, butt, hips, and thighs.
You see, HFCS is a fake, manufactured, non food, in my opinion.
It simply did not exist 40 years ago. It was developed in a lab somewhere in the 1960's, via an enzymatic process, that turned corn into an insanely sweet substance, with a very long shelf life.
When the US government began adding tariffs to imported sugar, HFCS quickly became very attractive to food manufacturers
Why?Because the tariffs, artificially elevated sugar prices, so the HFCS became much cheaper.
Now it's in everything, from condiments, and soda, to cookies, pies, cakes, hot dogs, and even your kids cough syrup.
Prior to the 1970's, the annual consumption of manufactured high fructose corn syrup, was Nada, Zip, Zero!
Now, estimates put the annual consumption anywhere between 60 and 70 pounds per year, per person, here in the US.
And this doesn't include the 70 pounds or so of sugar, consumed right alongside it.
High Fructose Corn Syrup, Health & Testosterone! That's a lot of sugar!
And the harsh truth is, you cannot mess with mother nature like this, without paying a price.
If you want to find the true culprit of the obesity epidemic here in America, look no further than the HFCS.
Numerous studies have shown that metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, syndrome X, and type two
diabetes, are all fueled by high fructose corn syrup consumption.
Regarding testosterone? The fat you're storing on your body as a result of this substance, comes along with a friend.
That friend is called aromatase.
Aromatase is an enzyme that converts
Testosterone to estrogen in your body, very efficiently.
And...The more body fat you have, the more active this enzyme will be.
The bottom line?If you're shifting from lean muscled and fit, to soft round, and out of shape, you're testosterone levels are headed in the wrong direction!
If you want to stop this trend, do yourself a favor and drop the soda!
If need more energy, simply boost your testosterone levels!
